The jokes here seem to be 'durh hur Russian/Serbian names are hard'/'hur hur weird foreigner has poor English.' Pretty terrible taste.

Then again, I don't know what people expect from this writer. It's a softcore porn comic. All the terrible porno dialogue with none of the commitment to actual porn!

  • I once had a professor named Svetlana Tlupova, or at least that's how she spelled in in the Latin alphabet. A name like that deserves to be written in its original alphabet, otherwise a bit of nuance gets lost in transliteration. Consider how variations of Tchaikovsky there are: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyotr_Ilyich_Tchaikovsky#cite_note-0
Some are downright confusing, such as "Chajkovskij".

Anyways, I don't see a joke here, just exposition and character introduction, and I'm fine with that.
Bear shows skill and pride in own work, introduces herself. The name involves some difficult-for-Americans consonantal clusters and Jim is clearly still taken aback by the (assumedly) large woman in front of him.

    Other notes:
I love her sneer in 3.
I find it odd that we still don't have a direct size comparison for her.
I have no idea why Jim is so freaked out by bears.
I'm kind of tired of the thinking:
    if $nationality == Russian
    then $species = bear
    end

  • closet look closely at their expressions don't think about it logically and most importantly think of something racist about it and the joke will come to light ^,^ see you on the other side buddy

  • Americans always freak out whenever someone that is not 'American' show pride on its country or culture...

Maybe they think that they are the only country with that right.

By the way, I see this character breaking a lot of things on how they have developed so far... I mean, there will be maybe a kind of reversed cultural shock.

So if ya think American workmanship is crap, go back to Russia.

Isn't that the point of coming to America to show that the stuff is shit by making better things yourself

  • Well I got the joke. lol. XD People stop thinking that it has to do with the whole dang world and think of a single persons quirks. Everyone is different. If you want goofy world views then find the comic: Scandinavia and The World. But please, it's a joke, not rocket science.

Svetlana? Why such a lame Russian name? Did the artist have no imagination, or rather further knowledge of Russian names?

I think Hardiman is just the artist, other people write the script.
