Description

His hat seated atop his head, the imploring knocking drove Yucki zombie-like out of bed, innervated from his often more sluggish pace to a healthy trudge.

Past the cots, through the kitchen, up the stares of the root cellar- The mossy dirt walls sagged against the wooden braces, whose presence did less to dissuade a cave-in then the roots of the grass and trees weaving there way through the walls of his home. Scaling the stairs was always a worrying experience for Yucki, who did not leave his home often-

His palms braced against the hatch that would be his doorway out, and a final, knock rattled through the worn, rattling frame, before it ground against the tile where it had settled lifted on creaking hinges braced by Yucki's one arm. A gasp came and a pair of brown feet stepped back, tail twitching, up, ears perking, excited.

A squirrel stood outside the door, a messenger bag slung over her shoulder and hugged to her hip. She smiled what Yucki thought of as idiotic grin, the stranger gleefully greeting him.

"Well heya, fella!" She said. "I got a package for the creep in the hole? You wouldn't happen to know anyone out around here like that, would ya?"

Yucki's face inflected into unamusement.

"We stopped carrying to this spot a while back. Your mailbox is stuffed!" She remarked, undoing the top flap of her bag and heaving out something wrapped in brown paper and tressed up in twine. "I guess this wouldn't fit anyway- But nobody else was volunteering to take it, and- Nobody else really fit the description, so," She looked up from the brown paper tag she twisted in her grip. Yucki dropped the hatch and stepped out, stooping over to look at it. His hats glistening eyestallks made intimate eye with the courier, who couldn't really tell what either of them were looking at on of neither having pupils.

"You're not a very chatty guy, are you?" She announced, setting it into Yucki's open arms. His entire body lurched and fell forward under the weight- Unexcercised and knocked off balance despite his bottom-heavy figure. His face tipped up toward the sun, hat no longer staying it from his eyes, and they stung from exposure. He let out a hiss. "Woah, are you alright?" The squirrel hurried leaned forward- But Yucki bared his teeth and lurched back, his arms scraped out from underneath the heavy package.

"S- Sorry about that," She put her hands up defensively. "I guess I just don't know my own strength," She reached down picked it up with ease, pursing her lips, wondering how Yucki made it look so heavy. "We've got more like this at the office- If you're uh, interested, I can show you to them."

"Why would I care about some brown paper and twine," Yucki thought, and then thought better: "They could all have money in them,"

And he settled on a course of action accordingly.
