Wghat I noticed when playing Alien Isolation while dying one of many gruesome deaths at the hand of the xenomorph is, that the membrane that covers its head is partialy translucent.

Which means under the right circumstances, you can see its skull. Which looks like a human skull, but with empty eye sockets and this is bloody terrifying

This has been a feature since the first movie. Giger and Scott wanted audience to only rarely catch a glimpse of the skull, through the metallic dye suspended inside the material of the clear plastic dome, depending on the lighting, and then have to digest the Promethean implications. Alien Prometheus actually explaining this was super lame, because no one canon explanation could be as horrifying as the unknown sea of possibility.

You'll find a lot of xenomorphs on here with translucent heads, revealing their phallic cranium and human-like skull faces, with empty sockets. Got to pay tribute to the greats.
