MY PLACE s02:e58 - Saharah

“No, seriously” I asked Jitters as he unwrapped another one of those balloon presents that occasionally float over town “just where are those things coming from?”

“The sky” he answered. One could almost mistake his monotonousness for confidence.

“You know what I mean!” I barked. I looked towards the east side of the village. “They always blow in from just over that cliff. Maybe someone is trying to get our attention…”

“They’ve been trying for a long time.” said Jitters.

“Well, why hasn’t anyone ventured off to see who’s sending them?”

He shrugged.

With a roll of my eyes, I looked back towards the cliff.
I always feel weird when I gaze over to that side of the village. It’s where the train tunnel is, where I had emerged several months ago for the first time. I barely looked out of the window whilst in that train, so I have absolutely no idea what lies beyond the outskirts of Place. I really wanna explore it someday. Who knows, I might even find a few answers out there…

Turning back to Jitters, I couldn’t help but notice a large figure wandering around behind him. It looked like a camel without any humps. As I mentioned a while ago, we have started to get visitors now and then, but they only ever seem interested in Main Street or The Roost. To see somebody out in ‘the open’ like this was strange, and their unique appearance alone was enough to pique my interest.

“Who’s that over there?” I asked the beady-eyed bird.

Jitters stopped examining the toaster he had just found inside the balloon present and looked to see who I was talking about. “The eyelash lady” he replied, as if that helped at all.

I walked up to greet them, Jitters following close behind since he apparently had nothing better to do.

“Greetings stranger!” I waved, “What brings you to Place? I’m the Mayor, by the way, so don’t try any funny business.”

“Happy mornings” they said with a bow. “I am called Saharah, for that is my name. I come from faraway land.”

No kidding, I thought, that accent is a dead giveaway.
“What’s that you’re carrying?” I asked.

“I have many wallpapers for the papering of walls. Many carpets for the pettings of cars. For 3,000 bells. Deal?”

Man, I still haven’t gotten used to how eager animals are to start business. Nonetheless, I accepted her mysterious offer since my house could do with a touch-up. That, and she seemed to have travelled far, so I’d feel bad to turn her down.

“You smell new” she uttered during the walk to our house. “What has happened to the tortoise lord?”

“You mean Tortimer, right? He’s hanging out on his own island just across the sea. I should catch up with him sometime, even if he was a very bad influence…”

“I come here many times. Never thought he would leave. Happy to see young chimp with bad hair instead.”

If it weren’t for the fact that we were already standing at my front door, I would have probably called off the excursion.

“Ahhh!” she breathed slowly “This is your palace, yes?”

“Indeed it is!” I boasted. It’s not something I talk about much, but I’m quite fond of my little house. To hear it described as a palace made up for the comment she made about my hair. I opened the door and allowed Saharah inside. Jitters, thankfully, opted to go home instead. Something about having to wrap up his toaster for some penpal of his, I dunno.

Inside, Saharah took a long look around the four corners of my main room, absorbing the atmosphere (or lack thereof). “OH!” she blurted suddenly, displaying more emotion than expected. “I see the harmony of this room!”

“Y-you do?”

“Yes… yes! I have just the thing! Now I will accept the payment of money. For 3,000 bells, thank you. Yes, okay.”

Once I handed Saharah a bag of well-earned, bell boom sweetened bells, she almost pushed me back outside so that she could work her magic. Well, I suppose you can’t get in the way of a master craftsman whilst they’re at work. I considered going to The Roost to the time but was halted by a deep “It is done!” from right behind me.

“Gah!” I jumped, “you’re done already!?”

“Done like the past! Tomorrow is here! My vision. It is yours now. You will like it, yes?” She stood to the side, allowing me entry.

“We’ll see…” I said, a little unsure.
‘Guess I’m not having a coffee break just yet. Then again, I suppose this also spares me of a potential run-in with Carmen…

“Harmony is peace...” she said as I walked inside, as if to reassure me. “Peace is unity. Unity is harmony. I tell this to the King Nook. He ask me to leave.”

I was about to find out why…

~Author’s Notes~
To be continued next episode.

Last night, I completed the arduous task of adding a ‘next’ and ‘prev’ button to every episode of My Place thus far (both seasons) to allow for easier reading. I really should have done it earlier but it always slipped my mind to do so.
