MemberThere was a strangely popular show on american TV for a long time, no clue if it's still there, but... it's called "Teen Mom", no clue what they wanted to accomplish, but they showed the struggles those families went through when their daughter got pregnant and in some cases, even young women living alone cause their family cut with them, now having to try and make ends meet somehow while pregnant. In rare occasions there'd be the father still involved in the relationship, but I'm guessing they were rare, cause no healthy relationship would want a camera crew rummaging through their life during a pregnancy.

MemberEven without the reality TV aspect, having a child that young is like the worst of both worlds. You've got a lifelong commitment at an age where most people outgrow their partners at the best of times. The stress of a child just amplifies it.
It feels like from the set up we've got, Ken left the picture before he had any idea he'd got someone pregnant. Ken's already ignoring all the red flags that Maya hasn't read his ad and Maya's given details that would match exactly with a long lost child if Ken knew he had one.
My bet is when we get the big reveal or more backstory, Ken's got no clue he has a kid. Which will make the eventual reveal, presumably after they've already done the deed, even funnier

MemberI'm not disagreeing, just saying that a lot of scenarios that could have happened here, have happened IRL.
I'd like to actually point back to the first pages of this comic where Maya's mom shows her pictures quote "He doesn't live here anymore", meaning that Ken (if he is the dad) used to live where Maya was before she came to the city. So my guess as to what happened, they were a childhood group of friends (the picture of the group), hormones strike and ken and maya's mom kind of become a little thing, but ken's family has to move for some reason, probably for job related reasons... leading to Maya growing up without a father. Now... that doesn't explain why the mother never told ken about being pregnant, but once again, my guess would be that she was too heartbroken and/or saw how happy ken was in his new environment and didn't want to interfere with that.
Worse alternative... another quote "Here's me when I was your age", possibly meaning the group photo... which would put her at 19 in that photo, with ken at 16 or 17. They were friends, ken and mom became a couple, ken's family found out and didn't it, moving away forcibly separating them.
Though that would be a bit of a dark and sad version...
Anyway, I'm freaking hooked.
