Description

For some unspeakable reason I had the urge to draw a CANINE! Incredible isn't it?!?

I also had the urge to draw a pavise shield. They are extremely underrated, considering how amazing some of the surviving ones look. Pavise shields were generally larger than the one I chose to draw, and were primarily used by crossbowmen, but as far as I know there were also smaller versions used by infantry as well. Crossbowmen or archers could stick the pavise to the ground by using a and hide behind it to reload and shoot.

Both the design of the armor and the pavise are most likely not historically accurate, by the way. I didn't spend too much time looking at references.

Latin script: Dies irae dies illa, solvet saeclum in favilla. Rex tremendae maiestatis, salva me fons pietatis. In nomie Dei Patris et Filii.

Note: These are excepts of lyrics from a hymn called Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) by Friar Tommaso da Celano. Translation provided in a note on the shield.
