NightWings are a tribe of dragons in the Wings of Fire series. They have very dark scales that usually appear black, but may be seen to be very dark greens, blues, or violets under bright enough light. They also possess shiny silver scales on the undersides of their wings. Certain individuals may have silver scales elsewhere, such as bracelet patterns around their ankles or teardrop shapes beside their eyes. Due to their dark scales, they are easily able to blend in to shadows or darkness.

They also possess the ability to breathe fire, as well as powers of prophecy and mindreading. Their society is highly secretive, with even their home being unknown to the other tribes.

First arc spoilers:
It is later revealed that their supposed powers of prophecy and mind-reading are made up, having either vanished in the distant past or never existed at all. Furthermore, their home is revealed to be an island dominated by an active volcano, subjecting the tribe to constant danger and health problems. The volcano eventually erupts and wipes out their home entirely, with the remainder of the tribe living in the Rainforest and accepting the RainWing Queen as their new ruler.

Second arc spoilers:
It is revealed that NightWings can still truly possess powers of prophecy and/or mindreading, but only if their egg was hatched under at least one full moon, which had not happened for generations while living in hiding on their volcanic island. Furthermore, it is revealed that the NightWings only started living on the volcanic island after fleeing from an immensely powerful individual named Darkstalker in their past. The original home of the NightWings was on a peninsula on the southwest corner of Pyrrhia.
