Darren Ashfield is a gay male Charmeleon character owned by Bagu. He debuted in the Caught series and is a main character of "Knock First." As of the end of "Knock First," Darren, his boyfriend Grover, his father Richard, and Grover's father Junji are all dating each other.

Darren lives with his father, Richard, in Kanto. He became friends with his neighbor, Grover, after they had both evolved. The two play video games together, playing cooperatively on home consoles and trading handheld console cartridges to play in parallel. Darren does not speak Hoennese (Japanese), so Grover only gives him games in Kantonian (English) or games that do not require reading to play. During "Knock First," Grover offered to teach him Hoennese. In STRAIN, a cooperative shooter, Darren plays as a tank and fights the minions while Grover focuses on the boss character. Everything in Darren's house is fireproof.

Darren and Grover attend Pewter City College but live at home with their respective fathers. Darren is on the school's wrestling team, and Grover watches his matches. He in turn watches Grover's baseball games.

Darren is openly gay and rather promiscuous. He frequently goes to clubs and hooks up with men. He is usually a bottom, except when Grover asks otherwise. His name on Pokrmor, a hookup app for gay Pokémon, is "AshButtBoy93", and he posts pictures of his sexual encounters there. Despite this, his heart belongs to Grover; during the events of "Knock First," he changes his relationship status in the app to Taken. After the story, Darren hooked up again with a Nidoking mentioned in the story, but with Richard watching.

Unbeknownst to Darren, his father follows him on Pokrmor from a private and received a notification about this. He also did not know Richard was not straight or that Richard was boyfriends with Junji, but he found a dildo Richard kept hidden in his closet.
