A knife is a cutting edge or blade, hand-held or otherwise, with or without a handle. Knives are cutting tools commonly utilized as weapons.

The context of the image and the type of knife will determine whether a knife is considered a tool, or a weapon. A kitchen knife is an example of a tool. A dagger is an example of a weapon. Any knife can be used as a weapon in a given context, but not all knives should be considered weapons.

Not all bladed weapons should be considered knives. The presence of a longer blade usually is an indication that the weapon is more accurately described as a sword instead of a knife.
